Frequently asked questions
They’re often confused, but they’re very different!
🔹 Electrolysis is the only method approved by the FDA for permanent hair removal. It works by inserting a tiny probe into the hair follicle and using a small electrical current to destroy the root. It’s safe for all skin tones and hair types, and once a hair is gone, it’s gone for good.
🔹 Laser hair removal uses light energy to target pigment in the hair. It can reduce hair growth significantly but is not considered permanent. It tends to work best on people with light skin and dark hair, and results can vary depending on hormones and hair type.
Think of it this way: 🔸 Laser = long-term reduction 🔸 Electrolysis = permanent removal

Electrolysis should be the go to for facial hair removal because ..
- It's FDA-approved as the only permanent hair removal method
- Works on all hair types - light, grey, red, and fine hair
- Ideal for delicate facial areas like the chin, upper lip, cheeks, and jawline
- No risk of paradoxical hair growth (which can happen after laser!)
- It can correct or remove hair stimulated by previous laser treatments

We offer a full range of services, covering you from head to toe! This includes areas like your eyebrows, hairline, upper lip, chin, neck, back, abdomen, bikini area, arms, chest, breasts ...
Because of how hair grows in cycles, it's tricky to guess exactly how long it will take or how much you'll spend to become permanently hair-free. But don't worry! When you come in for your treatment, we will give you an approximate idea of what to expect for your specific areas and their unique growth cycles.
I will partner with you to understand your unique hair growth cycles, ensuring we permanently eliminate your hair in a reasonable time frame. Initially, your treatments will be more frequent, but as we progress, you'll find yourself coming in less often for shorter sessions.
To get the best results from your treatment, please avoid shaving, waxing, or any other hair removal method for at least 3 days beforehand. We need the hairs to be long enough for us to remove them with our professional tweezers.
Also, be sure to drink plenty of water the day before and on the day of your treatment, and try to avoid caffeine on the day of your appointment.
We will do a thorough after-care process that will calm and soothe the areas treated, and minimise any after treatment reaction.
However, the following healing symptoms are perfectly normal and expected:
Slight redness (disappears within hours of treatment)
Slight soreness in area (dissipates in 24-48 hours)
Minor swelling (disappears within hours of treatment)
Tiny red scabs on the follicles (usually appears after 24-48 hours and disappears in less than a week)
Occasional milia or whiteheads in the areas treated (most often seen in the upper lip area). These are normal, and is the body’s way of evacuating bacteria that was already inside the follicle before treatment.
After your appointment. Keep the area clean. We will have taken care to protect your skin before and after treatment. Please refrain from touching, rubbing, scratching or squeezing the area(s) treated.
We recommend using aloe vera to soothe the area at least 2+ times per day. We have tubes of aloe vera available to purchase at the studio.
Please stay out of the sun for at least 24 hours after treatment, especially on the face. If you are out and about, please use sunscreen with SPF 30 or above. It's vital to protect yourself from the sun during your healing phase else you could subject your skin to hyper-pigmentation
After underarm treatments, please refrain from using deodorant or antiperspirant for 24 hours after treatment
After face treatments, please refrain from using makeup, particularly creamy foundations, for 24 hours after treatment.
Allow the skin to form its natural protective barrier for healing prior to introducing any potential irritants.
Refrain from hot tubs, pools, saunas, steam rooms or extreme workouts (e.g. running, or anything that will get you very sweaty) for at least 48 hours after treatment.
Let’s ensure that no unnecessary bacteria is introduced into the treated areas.
At ElectroGlow Studio, we specialise in safely and effectively treating common skin blemishes such as skin tags, broken capillaries (also known as thread veins), blood spots (like cherry angiomas), and milia.
We use a precise and gentle method that targets the blemish directly. For many common blemishes, we utilise advanced electrolysis technology, which works by safely cauterising or coagulating the blemish, allowing your skin to heal smoothly. I will explain the specific process tailored to your blemish during your consultation.
Our blemish removal treatments are designed to be as comfortable as possible. Most clients describe the sensation as a very brief, mild heat or a tiny pinch. We always prioritise your comfort and can discuss ways to minimise any discomfort during your appointment.
Many smaller blemishes, especially skin tags and milia, can often be treated effectively in just one session. For larger or more stubborn blemishes, or areas with multiple broken capillaries, a few sessions might be recommended to achieve the best results. I will give you a personalised estimate during your consultation.
Downtime is generally minimal. You might experience some temporary redness, tiny scabbing, or slight swelling in the treated area, which resolves over time.
We'll provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing and optimal results.
Yes, our blemish removal methods are safe and effective for a wide range of skin types. During your consultation, we'll assess your skin and the specific blemish to ensure it's the right treatment for you.
Results can be quite immediate for some blemishes, like skin tags, which are removed immediately. For others, like broken capillaries, you'll notice an improvement over a week or two as the skin heals.
The Slow Glow Facial is suitable for most skin types, including sensitive, mature, dry or tired skin. It’s gentle, hydrating, and non-invasive — designed to nourish rather than overwhelm the skin.
Yes. The products and techniques used are calming and non-aggressive. If you have specific concerns, feel free to get in touch ahead of your appointment so we can tailor the experience.
The treatment takes around 60 minutes from start to finish, including time for a skin consultation and time to relax afterwards.
This facial uses a combination of Liz Earle skincare — known for its gentle, plant-based formulas — and Action de Gala products, including the Jouvencell serum, which supports skin renewal and deep hydration.
Alongside these, I use gentle massage techniques to boost circulation and muscle tone.
Yes, absolutely. This treatment makes a lovely gift for birthdays, special occasions, or just to show someone you’re thinking of them. Gift vouchers are available — just get in touch.
Try to arrive with minimal or no makeup, and avoid exfoliating or using active products (like retinol) the day before your appointment.
If you’re unsure, I’m happy to advise.
Electrolysis is the only method of permanent hair removal, period.
To trace the origins of electrolysis, one needs to go back to 1875 when an ophthalmologist discovered that he could permanently remove ingrown eyelashes from his patients by energising a fine needle and inserting it into the follicle of the eyelash. From these early attempts to rid people of unwanted hair, there has been continued medical research and development that has made electrolysis both a safe and reliable method of treatment.
Today, electrolysis is recognised as a safe and permanent method of hair removal.
At ElectroGlow Studio, we use cutting-edge epilation equipment designed to make your experience as comfortable as possible. However, if you tend to be sensitive or are a little worried about discomfort, you're welcome to take ibuprofen/paracetamol before your treatment.
Electrolysis involves inserting a fine, pre-sterilised, disposable probe into the hair follicle. The skin is not punctured or harmed. As light amount of current is then applied through the probe. Effective treatment of the mid and lower follicle accomplishes permanent hair removal by destroying the dermal papilla. When the dermal papilla is completely de-activated, no further hair growth can occur. If in an initial treatment, a hair is only damaged an undernourished weaker hair will grow. This hair will be finer and more susceptible to treatment in the future.
It's easy! Simply contact ElectroGlow Studio to schedule your initial consultation. We'll chat about your concerns, assess your hair / skin blemishes, and create a personalised treatment plan just for you.
