From Google to Glow: My Journey into Electrolysis

In November last year, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life: I left my job at Google as a User Research Manager to pursue something completely different — and deeply personal. I stepped away from a fast-paced career in tech to retrain as an electrologist and open my own studio. It wasn’t a light decision, but it was the right one.

Like many people, I’ve had my own experiences with unwanted hair. I knew electrolysis was the only truly permanent solution, but I also knew how important it was to find someone who really got it — someone professional, qualified, and kind. So, I decided to become that person myself.
The first step was retraining. I began with the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy and Physiology — a deep dive into how the body works — followed by the Level 3 Certificate in Epilation, learning the techniques and precision behind electrolysis. I then went on to complete the Level 4 in Skin Blemish Removal. It was intense at times, but each step brought me closer to the kind of practitioner I wanted to be: confident, skilled, and fully qualified.
There were highs, there were wobbles, and there were many late nights spent ordering equipment, choosing lighting, researching couches (who knew there were so many kinds?) and bringing my treatment room to life. I wanted to create a space that felt warm, welcoming and safe — somewhere people could come to feel cared for, seen, and comfortable in their own skin. Now, ElectroGlow Studio is exactly that: a calm, modern space with natural textures, gentle light, and a quiet sense of ease.

Every piece of equipment I’ve invested in is top of the range, chosen with intention, because my clients deserve nothing less. Every treatment I offer is rooted in care, comfort and real results. And every person who walks through the door is met with respect, warmth and understanding.
This isn’t just a new career — it’s a calling. And I’m so proud to now be fully qualified and up and running. ElectroGlow Studio is open, and I couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead.
