Treating my own chin hair ⚡ Electrolysis treatment & aftercare

If you’ve ever suddenly discovered a coarse hair appearing out of nowhere on your chin, neck, lip, or jawline… you are not alone.
I’ve been saving one of mine to document the full journey — I wanted to show what really happens with unwanted hormonal hair, how to manage it safely, and what electrolysis treatment actually looks like from start to finish.
In this third video, I prepare to treat this unwanted hair.
As an electrologist, I think it’s important to show real skin, real hair, and real healing.
Welcome to the next stage of my unwanted hair journey.
In this video, it's finally treatment day.
The treatment ⚡
After examining the hair and preparing the treatment area, I carried out electrolysis on the follicle.
One of the things people are often surprised by is how precise electrolysis is. A very fine sterile probe is gently inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle, allowing energy to target the cells responsible for hair growth. The hair can then be removed without the need for plucking.
Because every hair is at a different stage of its growth cycle, permanent hair removal is a process rather than a one-off treatment. Consistency and patience are key.
What does the skin look like afterwards?
Immediately after treatment, it's completely normal to experience some:
Mild redness
Slight swelling around the follicle
A sensation of warmth or tenderness
Small raised bumps that usually settle quickly
These are normal signs that the skin is responding to treatment and will usually calm down over the following hours and days. Everyone heals differently depending on their skin type, the area treated, and the intensity of the hair growth.
Aftercare matters
Good aftercare helps support healing and reduces the risk of irritation. In this video you can see the aftercare routine I use for all my clients. Read more about it, in this blog https://www.electro-glow-studio.com/post/calm-soothe-restore-my-signature-galvanic-aftercare-ritual
Following treatment, I recommend:
Keeping the area clean
Avoiding touching or picking the skin
Avoiding heavy makeup on the treated area for at least 24 hours where possible
Staying away from excessive heat such as saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs for 24-48 hours
Using a gentle, soothing skincare routine
Applying a perfume free, facial SPF daily to protect the skin
The goal is to allow the skin to recover naturally without additional irritation.
What happens next?
The next stage is often the one people are most curious about.
Over the coming days and weeks I'll be documenting exactly how the area heals, what changes I notice, and whether there are any visible signs of treatment.
I'll also be showing what regrowth looks like and explaining why regrowth doesn't necessarily mean a treatment hasn't worked.
If you've ever wondered what really happens after electrolysis, follow along as I share the healing process honestly and without filters.
Real skin. Real treatment. Real results.
Follow along
If you’re dealing with menopausal, hormonal, or PMOS/PCOS-related hair growth, I hope this series helps you feel less alone — and more informed about your options.
You can follow the journey over on Instagram as I document each stage step-by-step.
And if you’ve recently discovered your first “surprise” chin hair… welcome to the club 💛
