What happens if you miss an electrolysis appointment? (and does it affect your results?)

Life happens. Work runs late, childcare falls through, you’re feeling under the weather — and suddenly you’ve missed an electrolysis appointment.

If you’re worrying that you’ve undone weeks of treatment, it’s ok. You haven’t. But… consistency does matter when it comes to permanent hair removal.

Here’s what happens when you miss a session, and how it may affect your timeline.

First: You don’t lose permanent progress

Electrolysis permanently destroys individual hair follicles.

Once a hair has been successfully treated and released, it will not grow back. Missing one appointment does not reactivate treated follicles or undo previous work.

Why timing still matters in electrolysis

Hair grows in cycles. At any given time, only a percentage of your hairs are in the active growth phase (anagen phase), which is when electrolysis is most effective.

Regular appointments help us:

  • Catch new hairs as they enter the active growth stage

  • Reduce the overall density more efficiently

  • Maintain steady progress toward clearance

When appointments are spaced too far apart, we may miss optimal treatment windows. It just means the process can take longer.

What happens if you miss an appointment?

If you miss a session:

  • You will likely notice more regrowth by your next visit

  • We may need slightly longer treatment time at your next appointment

Does consistency really make a difference?

Yes — especially in the first 6–12 months.

Early treatment is about gaining control over growth patterns. Consistency helps:

  • Reduce bulk growth faster

  • Keep hair at a manageable level

Will I need to “Start Over” if I miss appointments?

No. Treated follicles will stay treated, however you may need a short period of more frequent sessions again to regain momentum — but you are never back at square one.

When is it okay to space appointments further apart?

As you progress and growth becomes finer and sparser, appointments naturally spread out.

Toward the later stages of treatment, 4–6 week gaps are often perfectly fine because:

  • Fewer new hairs are appearing

  • Density is significantly reduced

  • We are treating smaller numbers of follicles

A note for clients with hormonal hair growth (PCOS, HRT, Menopause)

If your hair growth is influenced by hormones, consistency is even more helpful in the early stages.

Hormonal fluctuations can trigger new follicles over time. Regular treatment allows us to manage those changes effectively and prevent build-up.
